“This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion.”
(Surah Al Ma’ida – 5:3)
Rasulallah
has said, "Whosoever impersonates a nation (other than Islam) will be (resurrected) from them on the Day of Judgement". (Sunan Abu Dawud)In the above Hadith, our beloved Prophet warns us that we should not imitate or follow other religions or we will be raised from amongst them on the Day of Judgement. Valentine’s Day is an example of this; it is nothing more than a Kuffar concept which uses lust & forbidden relationships for commercial gain.In western countries, such as in the UK, Muslims are fusing their Islamic culture with that of the Kuffar and in some cases, they are unable to even differentiate between what is right and wrong. Festivals that are most widely celebrated by non-Muslims are now being accepted and celebrated by Muslims.
Islamic scholars have repeatedly written that any form of activity that is closely related to the manners of the Kuffar is a stepping stone to Kufr, and thus, prohibited in Islam.
Valentine's Day encourages pre-marital relationships which is freely and widely practised by the West. It is nothing more than a day of lust, pleasure and drinking. On these days, cards are exchanged, alcohol is consumed excessively, money is spent wildly, dancing and singing takes place and all sorts of lustful and sexual situations occur.
In Islam, there is a great concern for Parda (segregation of both genders) which means that men & women cannot mix freely because this results in, as seen in the West, unhealthy illicit relationships with strangers which even lead to shameful acts & deeds due to one’s lustful desires. Thus, it should be obvious that Islam forbids Valentine’s Day as it means that these rules are broken due to the nature of such an event. Islamic Sharia Law is such that it ensures both genders are respected and relationships are modest, pure & based on good intentions.
In Islam, Muslims do not need specific days to remind them of the obligations they have towards parents and loved ones, as everyday should be spent in appreciation of the pure relationships one is blessed with in life.
So, it is clear that the celebration of days like Valentine’s are not approved in Islam and that these are purely Kuffar festivals.
Many are under the false notion that while retaining the basic tenets and teachings of Islam, adoption of a few non-Muslim modes of life would not do any harm. Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran:
O Dawood! Undoubtedly, We have made you a vicegerent in the earth, therefore order between mankind with truth, and follow not desire, otherwise it would cause you to go astray from the path of Allah. Verily, those who go astray from the path of Allah, there is for them a severe torment for that they have forgotten the Day of Reckoning.
(Surah Saad – 38:26)
